Neurodivergence

  • Have you ever wondered if you’re different from the people around you?
  • Have you ever struggled to make friends or often felt misunderstood?
  • Do you find school difficult or work difficult because you got labelled as a daydreamer, naughty or lazy?
  •  Do you feel that you’ve struggled to reach your potential because you have no confidence in your abilities, or can’t stay in a job for long because you need variety?
  • Do you have special interests that you would like to share in detail? I’m here to learn about them!
  • Do you have ways you have to do things, like eating or loading the dishwasher and get very upset if they are not done correctly?
  • Have you found out that your children are neurodivergent (ND) and then realised how similar they are to you?
  • Do you get overwhelmed easily or find yourself thinking about and replaying conversations for weeks?

Neurodivergence is an umbrella term to encompass a lot of different things like ADHD, Autism, dyscalculia and dyslexia where people’s brains have developed differently. Although the media would like you to believe that people are being diagnosed left, right and centre, it is actually very hard to get an assessment and diagnosis in the UK. There is a lot of underdiagnosis, especially in girls and women.

I realised through working with many young people with ADHD or Autism that what really resonated with me was their experience of neurodivergence and eventually this led me to my own assessment and diagnosis as AuDHD.

If you find that you experience difficulties and challenges that others don't seem to struggle with, like strong reactions to sensory stimuli, difficulties assessing or expressing emotions or experiencing overwhelming emotional responses (emotional regulation), challenges with time management or attention, please get in touch. We’ll work together to explore what it means to be ND (neurodivergent)  and find ways of overcoming, adapting to, accepting and maybe even celebrating those differences and in a world that is not set up with us in mind.
